I teach at an engineering school where most of the students are also involved in other campus activities. One of the student organizations is in charge of organizing and putting on the Gala, the school’s biggest event of the year. The Gala corresponds with the school’s graduation ceremony and consists of hors d’oeuvre, a main course, and a show put on both by the students and hired professionals. It is strictly a black and white affair kind of event– suits, ties, and little black dresses required!
In true French fashion, apéro started at 8 and the dinner went until 1 AM. Dinner included free kir, wine, and champagne, as well as salmon, duck, mashed potatoes, salad, and dessert. This year’s theme was Les Comédies Musicales, aka Musicals, specifically Grease. Needless to say, I quite enjoyed myself.
Dinner was followed by free champagne and lots of dancing until almost 4 AM. It was a truly impressive and spectacular event; I really enjoyed seeing my students in a different setting, and seeing how much work was put into the event.
