This year was a year of changes, firsts, and accomplishments. I graduated college and moved home. I landed my first teaching job, and then eight months later I picked up my limited possessions and moved across the world to the south of France to teach English. I was able to successfully lose weight, and also find peace in many aspects of my life. All-in-all, 2013 was a good year- much better than the last. I’m looking forward to ringing in the new year in the greatest city in the world with new friends, and enjoying this fantastic year which is to come. Without getting too sentimental, here some of the things I’ve learned and done in 2013.
January: Oshkosh & Milwaukee– I graduated college, finished my student teaching, and moved out of my college apartment and back in with my parents. I was also hired for my first teaching job in a great district!
February: Milwaukee– I started my first long-term substitute teaching job!
March: Cincinnati – I became the proud owner of my first smart phone: the iPhone 5! I was also able to take a trip with my family to Cincinnati to visit some relatives, as well as two of my friends from high school and study abroad.
April: Menomonee – my mother and I traveled far up north to see my cousin Alyssa’s fashion show! Additionally, my long-term substitute position turned into another long-term job, and I found myself working for the same district for almost six months. I was also accepted to TAPIF and was officially coming back to France!
May: Wisconsin Dells– I took a long-weekend trip with some of my best friends to the Wisconsin Dells! It was also my BFF Katharine’s Bachelorette Party.
June: Milwaukee– I completed my long-term substitute positions and began teaching summer school!
July: Chicago– I took a trip to Chicago with my friend Erin to complete my visa and see The Book of Mormon!
August: Minneapolis– I completed my summer school contract and then I took a trip with my friend Sarah to visit our friend Greg in Minneapolis, MN. My friends Kate and Louie also got married!
September: Paris, Lille, Caen, Nice, Toulon, Monaco– my whirlwind of an adventure began with a tour of Paris, Caen, and Lille before settling in Toulon! At the end of the month, I took a trip to Nice and Monaco!
October: Barcelona– I started my new job in Toulon, and I took a solo trip to Barcelona, which was awesome!
November: St. Tropez, Marseille, Poquerolles, Peynier– I took trips around the Côte d’Azur to Marseille and Porquerolles, as well as celebrated thanksgiving at my cousin Jeff’s house!
December: Lyon, Annecy, Strasbourg, Caen, Carbonne, Paris: I got to celebrate my first French Christmas and ring in the New Years in Paris, my favorite city in the world!
Here’s to a new year!
