French students and teachers are given 2 weeks of vacation at the end of October, (yes I know, two weeks of work, two weeks of vacation, welcome to France!) Since many people were taking trips, last Friday night we had a huge party for all of the assistants! I think there were about 40 of us all shoved into my one apartment (owned by my Canadian friends’). It was so much fun! Each person brought a dish or drink to share, and then we partied all night long- we ate, we drank, and we danced and mingled! There were a dozen nationalities present: English, Scottish, American, Canadian, Spanish, Mexican, French, German, Italian, Brazilian… I think I was one of the last to leave around 2:30 AM! Better yet, on Saturday night, my French friend Olivier invited some of the other assistants and myself to have a pizza party at his place! It was great to meet his friends and speak some more French with French people.
For me, it was such an uplifting weekend in regards to feeling a tiny bit homesick and missing my friends from home. I met more assistants and I can’t wait to get to know them better once we are all back to work in November.
I could not have picked a better way to start vacation.
